False Lashvertising

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1392461/CoverGirl-admits-using-false-lashes-ad-false-lash-effect-mascara.html

The spotlight is on CoverGirl this week as a newspaper article highlights the 'finer' details of their new ad campaign. This time it's all about the use of lash inserts in their advert for the new LashBlast . Surely almost all of the cosmetics giants use false lashes now in their mascara ad campaigns and we're all aware of that, non? I don't agree with it, it is false advertising as the mascara can't create that particular look on it's own, and the tiny blurb at the bottom, well who reads that? I personally can't believe they can get away with it, yet you know what it's like, once one starts, they are all at it and I think we can get a bit brainwashed and blase to it at the same time. After all, the whole image is photoshoped anyway so is anything real? For now I'm sticking to my tried and tested False Lash Effect Mascara from Max Factor. It does work length and volume well and seems to do what it says on the tin without overpromising. Let me know your favourite mascaras and join the beauty advertising debate!

Mousse with no mess

As you can see from my profile pic I have brown hair, this has ranged from red brown to brown black to blondey brown - I always seem to be searching for my perfect brown shade! I normally colour my hair at the hairdressers (after some home terrible home hair disasters!) however budgets are tight right now so I thought I'd venture back into the home hair colour market as I'd been tempted to try the new formulas that promise no mess and even colour results.
I opted for L'Oreal Sublime Mousse in no 60 Pure Light Brown. This is a permanent hair dye, and its important to do a patch test 24 hours before. I have a very sensitive scalp so have to be careful with hair dye and I'm pleased to say this one worked well. No reactions and it didn't smell of that horrid ammonia that you can still often get with many products on the market.
I really liked the new mousse formula, much easier to apply and no drips all over the bathroom floor. The colour result was a nice even brown, not quite as light as I'd hoped but then again my hair was quite dark and to really lighten hair properly I'd say go to a salon. I paid £6.99 from Boots and used my Advantage card, overall very happy with this product and I'd definately use it again.

4beauty easypeasy

http://www.channel4.com/4beauty/make-up-skin-care/make-up/make-up-videos/5-minute-make-up-look

I love watching 'How To'  make-up videos, I am always fascinated by how other women put make-up on. I don't believe in make-up rules (do what you like - depending on the occasion of course!) and I am so nosy as to what products people use and how. The videos on the 4beauty site are so useful, and most importantly informative, clear and easy to replicate at home. So many videos out there can creep up to 20 minutes and end up being so complicated and requiring lots of different products you can't be bothered. Make-up should be inspiring not exhausting! Let me know beauty what sites you find useful.

La belleza espaƱola es el secreto!

Intensive Tolerance Booster by Natura Bisse. I've been using this serum for a few months now and I have to say it really does work. It is from a Spanish company based in Barcelona (my fave city!) and is well regarded on the professional beauty circuit. It is particularly good at soothing and renewing sensitive skin and I personally have found it very helpful in the winter to summer transition. Pricey but it does get results. Use it sparingly before your moisturiser and it should last you most of the year. Buy it online from Selfridges or Space NK.

Bridal Magic

Yesterday I had another gorgeous bride to make up who was getting married at the RAC Members Club in Epsom. A fabulous venue and very fitting for my stunning bride who looked every inch a movie star. I used Smashbox Oil Free Primer to help her make up last all day, plus Smashbox Waterproof Eyeliner Gel in black to define her lovely brown eyes. Flawless skin and a rosy blush, very Olivia Palermo!

Looking good most definately feels better!

Yesterday I went long to the Royal Marsden in Sutton where I was a volunteer for the fantastic Look Good Feel Better programme. The session is aimed at helping women who are undergoing treatment for cancer tackle some of the visual side effects of the illness and generally teaching them how to apply make-up for a natural look. The charity has been running for 15 years and is a wonderful way of meeting new people and sharing knowledge. It has been proven that when you look better, you feel better and the programme enables everyone to have giggle and hopefully forget about their illness for a few hours. They also get to go home with a brilliant goody bag of make up and skincare products provide foc by some big brand names in the cosmetics industry.

Bridal Beauty

I love my job!! This weekend I've been working with a very special bride who made by job so easy and fun. A gorgeous girl who was all peaches and cream. I used Dermalogica 1G foundation as her skin was already very good, so we kept the base very light and just evened out the skintone slightly. I used Big Beautfiful Eyes by BeneFit and swept a light dusting of MAC Gold crushed metalic pigement for subtle sparkle. I used BeneFit Coralista on cheeks and Bourjous Delice de Poudre for a matt summery bronze glow. I made up the eyes first so the base remained polished, as soon as I have some photos I'll post them. Picture perfect!

Nails in Action

I often look for a strong, chip resistant nail varnish that will last due to the nature of my job. I tried Rimmel's 60 second varnish in Coralicious for my anniversary weekend away with the hubby and it didnt disappoint! A gorgeous coral-pink colour, the fat brush made it glide on easily and it dried very quickly. Although I'm not sure I'd chance only leaving it for 60 seconds! It does the job well though for girls on the go and after 10 minutes and two coats I was ready to go. The colour looked fab against my navy dress, and so far its lasted past day 5!
